ignorance can teach.

I haven't been inspired in awhile.

This has been a strange week ; two people close to me by one degree of separation died this week... I've been in a daze ; death definitely causes the questioning of things.

I was at my neighbours yesterday; drinking wine. And his music caught my ear. Junip he told me was what we were listening to and then he showed me the record cover. ..

'Wow' the drawings on this record were something that hit me right in the centre of my forehead. So simple, yet complex, so soft yet [powerful.

We looked up the artist - 'Fredrick Soderberg' - I was blown away by his work.

The strange thing is the one image which really stood out to me is called 'I',.. I just posted it to my Facebook and then noticed something....

My favourite of Soderberg's when paired with one of my most recent raved-about creations -The Prayer Rug- echoed the proportion and symbology in a very similar way.

This leads me to gasp because I remain ignorant by choice a lot of the time. Working to tune out the world - so my work can't be uninfluenced by others. I am so proud of my Prayer Rugs because they speak about so much; Conflicts in religion; Spiritual strength; Freedom; Power; Peace; Beauty; Tradition; Birth; Life; Prayer; After Life. ..and more.

To see a stranger's work, a celebrated artist from Stockholm, echo something I feel came from purely within me, uninfluenced and true, tells me I am tapping into something bigger and important ; and thus I am probably on the right path. This is reassuring and inspiring.

It is so interesting to me - and perhaps I am reading into it to too much - but either way I like how sometimes my purposeful ignorance often teaches me things - even months, years after I create something.

I love your work 'Fredrick Soderberg' - Thank you for making it.

"One of the potentials of art is that it can work as magick, in the sense that it deals with an apprehension of reality that claims you can affect the physical realm by having contact with the transcendental and metaphysical realms." - Fredrick Soderberg Artist Statement

if seventy were young

and death uncommon

(forgiving not devine,

to err inhuman)

or any thine mine

-dingdong : dongding-

to say would be to sing

if broken hearts were whole

and cowards heroes

(the popular the wise,

a weed a tearose)

and every minus plus

-fare ill : fare well-

a frown would be a smile

if sorrowful were gay

(today tomorrow,

doubting believing and

to lend to borrow)

or any foe a friend

-cry nay : cry yea-

november would be may

that you and i’d be quite

-come such perfection-

another i and you,

is a deduction

which(be it false or true)

disposes me to shoot

dogooding folk on sight

In Sad

Words are flying out like
endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while they pass
They slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow waves of joy
are drifting thorough my open mind
Possessing and caressing me

~

Images of broken light which
dance before me like a million eyes
That call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a
restless wind inside a letter box
they tumble blindly as
they make their way across the universe

~

Sounds of laughter shades of life
are ringing through my open ears
exciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which
shines around me like a million suns
It calls me on and on across the universe

~

Nothing's gonna change my world

Beginning work in the 'Real World'.

I am starting as a rug designer for Reznick Carpets (www.reznickcarpets.com) on Monday. I won't be just a rug designer, but also a graphic designer, event planner, and sales rep for their new location. This place is unbelievable - 55 000 square feet of carpets- tapestries- all thousands of dollars a piece. Their new location will be smaller, more gallery-like, and I get to brand it/run it/maintain it/design rugs in it. All of their carpets are hand-made in Nepal.

I never guessed my path would take me into rug design - but it has and I'm excited.

Bye bye nocturnal vagabond life! Time to get serious.

This hangs in the show room of my new 9-5 design gig - LOVE IT - gonna save my pennies and buy it - course that's a lot of pennies being that it costs over 10 gs≥!!

I know what it is....

THat's it! I know what it is......
The difference is that the Mountains are so much taller than the bank buildings. You see the Mountains above everything in the sky, every building. And they rule the sky,.
That's the one major difference that makes Vancouver, just feel better,. because you're reminded that the earth is that much bigger and more powerful than money. Where as in Toronto you look up and only see the bank symbols looming down saying money is our only means to freedom; We in this city forget where were are, and where the real power lies. In Vancouver- you see the truth everyday; the truth that our dollar doesn't stand a chance against the natural elements.
